Death in His Grave

I thought this was an appropriate time of year (Easter) to share with you my very favorite worship song.  (I do have a close second favorite, but I’d have to say this is first).

Plus, the artist, John Mark McMillan, just posted on his blog a line-by-line commentary of the song, including verses to explain each one.  Honestly, I have a hard time understanding, in more than one way, what he is saying in this song.  However, that’s the beauty of it.  It’s deep; on a whole different level than other worship songs.  The song is truly poetry, as he describes it.  It is so beautifully written, and part of that is because the lyrics make you think.

My absolute favorite line is part of the title… The man Jesus Christ laid death in his grave. I think that is one line that we will never fully be able to grasp.  Wow.

The song gives me goosebumps and I could listen to it over and over again (I have) and still feel the impact of the lyrics.  It is so well-written and what talent to be able to put such a unfathomable thing into words and music.

If you haven’t heard it, or even if you have, listen and watch it here.  I love the video too.  Let me know if you agree!
