I’ve been living in Indianapolis for over a month now and I feel like I finally settled in. It took a week or so to unpack and organize, and since then I’ve been learning my way around the area, working on our business Two Are Better, and sleeping in WAY too late. Now that I’ve checked a lot of things off the list and it’s too cold for photo shoots, I need something else to do. Not to mention, a way to pay for our wedding!
So last week, I applied to substitute teach in the local school district (which consists of almost 20 schools), and after a background check, interview, and getting a substitute permit from the state – I’m officially hired! The process went a lot quicker and smoother than I thought and after just being put on the list today, I already have a few jobs lined up. Woohoo! :)
When I had the interview, the retired administrator made an interesting point that subbing is the hardest job out of having your own classroom and student teaching. Students immediately want to take advantage of you when you walk into a classroom of which you aren’t familiar. However, I’ve had experience subbing in my hometown and of course, student teaching, so I feel as prepared as I can be. 5 foot or not, I feel confident that students and I will have a mutual respect.
He did kind of scare me when he said everyone knows an attorney in this part of Indy. A little different than Small Town, Missouri. As they say, cover your butt (CYB) & document, document, document!
Here’s to a new teaching experience outside of my home state! I’ll let you know how it goes as Ms. Merenghi! And who knows, maybe it will lead to a job as a permanent sub, long-term sub, etc.
I was searching Etsy for hand-carved stamps, as Ryan and I are looking into packaging ideas for Two Are Better, and I remembered how much I love stamps! They’re not the most practical thing, but they are oh so cute.
I wish I could have a stamp collection – but what would I stamp? The walls? The love letters I don’t write? Ryan’s arm? Oooh – maybe I should get a teaching job so I have an excuse to use stamps on students’ papers. ;o)
Anyway, I got a bit distracted and just started searching Etsy for any handmade stamps that I liked. I started a Stamp Pinboard on Pinterest and I’m trying to justify a purchase of stamps.
We are planning on buying a few to stamp on packaging for Two Are Better – like maybe a camera one or custom logo. But how else could I use stamps? Any ideas? :)
Here’s just a few of my favorites below. The rest are on my Pinterest board so be sure to follow me!
My highlight of 2011 was when Ryan asked me to marry him!!! On December 12th, I became his fiancée after almost 6 years together. :)
It’s still surreal – partly because I haven’t been able to wear my ring yet! It’s now resized and waiting for us in Indiana. We also haven’t discussed any wedding dates or details yet, but that will come soon. I can’t wait!

While Ryan & I were in Florida a few weeks ago, we visited my cousin Christy and her family. Christy is recently engaged to Corey and getting married in April. They asked us to do their engagement photos and we were honored! They also have asked us to be their wedding photographers in April, which will be SO FUN! They have reserved a bed & breakfast on the beach in St. Augustine. Seriously?!? I can’t wait!!

Back in July, Ryan and I had the privilege of filming an “engagement video” for the first time. Ryan came up with the idea based on other videos he has seen and Lindsey & Nick also thought it was a great idea. It was really fun to “interview” them about their love story and as usual, Ryan did such an awesome job of putting it all together in the editing process. :)
