The Kenya Mercy House Baby Shower

I know I just blogged about February’s “Helping From Home” service project (Sole Hope)… but I am back again with this month’s project!  And you will soon here about April’s project so I hope you don’t mind.  :)

On Sunday, Ashley and Brittany hosted a Baby Shower for women and babies across the world.  How AWESOME is that?!

If you’ve ever read the blog We are THAT Family by Kristen Welch, you may have heard of The Kenya Mercy House.  Kristen, along with Maureen, a young lady and a Compassion leadership student from Kenya, The Mercy Maternity House in Kenya was formed.

The Mercy House exists to support and provide alternative options for pregnant girls living in the streets of Kenya. The Mercy House will aid them in nutrition, housing, prenatal care, counseling, Biblical teaching and job skills for sustainable living.

Click over to their site to read the shocking statistics of why this ministry is SO important and how they plan to carry out their vision.

Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good: And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and love mercy, to walk humbly with your God.”

So I think the important question is… how can you and I help? We can pray, give $3 on the 3rd of each month, spread the word… and/or donate items!  They are having monthly collection drives for supplies that they will take to Kenya in June (you ship the items to Texas).

During the month of March they have been collecting baby supplies.  Hence, the baby shower!

On Sunday, several local ladies gathered in Brittany’s home and brought things like clothes, baby formula, and cloth diapers.  Yes, we literally had a shower for these women in Kenya.  We don’t know personally.. but we know that they deserve the best.  And it was awesome.

Next month, they are collecting craft & sewing items :: thread, scissors, elastic, etc., plastic bags, white glue, lye,  soap molds, fishing line: Leisure time items :: books, Bibles, parenting magazines.  Perhaps you would like to donate too?  One idea is to order something on Amazon and have it shipped directly to Texas.

I encourage you to check out their blog and find out more.

Here are some photos from the Baby Shower…

The group (minus two people who got cut off- I am sorry about that! And someone who left early).
