On The Road Again

Last weekend, Ryan and I put my new car to the test and took it on the well-traveled path to Indiana.  I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve made that trip from here to there and back, but it was a new adventure in a Hybrid!  I was hoping to get 50 MPG +, but we got around 44.  Bummer, eh?  Only kidding; that is a good 10 more miles to the gallon than my old car!  I think you’d have to go about 60 miles-per-hour to get the maximum mileage on the highway.  We didn’t have time for that, as we already got a late start (4 pm).

The reason we were on the road again was because Ryan had to meet up with John Tibbs and band to head out to camp.  They’re finishing up a week of camp in Pennsylvania and tomorrow they’re traveling to Michigan for another week.  When they get back from Michigan, they’ll celebrate their album release with a party and then Ryan will come back to Missouri for several weeks.  I’ve definitely been missing him this week, but at the same time I am really excited for these opportunities he’s been given!

Anyway, last Saturday our plans were to get on the road after I took the C-BASE (standardized test for education majors), which was supposed to be 8 AM- 12 noon.  However… I skipped it.  I was entirely too exhausted from my week of class and figured I probably wouldn’t have done very hot on it.  As long as I don’t have too many problems passing it when I take it this fall, I’ll be okay.  Potentially, it could put be behind on graduating, but let’s hope not!

So after taking our sweet little time, we got on the road.  We made quite a few stops on the way- Panera, Starbucks (twice!), a stop for gas and air for my tires, where we found one of the caps on the tires was missing.  That led to a trip to Walmart and I think that was our last stop before reaching Todd and Carrie’s house.  By that time it was midnight (central time) and I still had to travel 45 more minutes to my friend, Nour’s house!  Needless to say, I don’t think I got there until like 3 AM eastern time and I felt pretty bad for interrupting her sleep.

The next morning we slept in a bit and then had the morning and afternoon to hang out.  It was a very quick visit, as I had to get back for another week of classes, but it was still really great to see her!  We both showed each other our new cars- she just bought her very first car, so exciting!  Nour drove me around her adorable city, we ate some fruit and dessert at a local park, stopped by an Old Navy (ooops, not in my budget!!), and I longingly looked at the awesome bike path they had around the town.  Our time together ended too quickly and I had to get back on the road to Missouri, but I was very thankful that it all worked out and I could see her for a bit!  See you again soon, friend?!?

Lucky me!

I’m thinking I may want to consider playing the lottery soon…

I just won my third giveaway as of the last few months! (I’ll remind you, in a nice, I hope you win too way, that I won a pair of Gap jeans and a coupon for $50 off $100 at Old Navy.)

bff Birthday!

What’s up with the weather? Winter clothes are officially in… scarves, sweaters, parka, boots, and all! It’s like January in October, mixed in with April showers. I heard the weather forecast on the radio tonight.. “Chance of sun on Saturday.” Because rain and clouds are now a given.

Have you ever made a wishful reference to being a size zero? Or perhaps being short? Take it back. Now. I went into the Gap today hoping to redeem my free pair of jeans. Ha, not so simple! First I had to figure out exactly what size fit me. Several years ago I wore a size 0 tightly in their jeans, but it seems that something has changed (and it’s not me). First off, there were hardly ANY size zeros out on the shelf and it’s certainly not because it’s a popular size. After some searching and assistance, I found out that double zero was the right size. Which not-so-conveniently only comes in one style. And that ONE style does not come in short sizes. Some other jeans come in short sizes, but not very many, and the ones that do are size zero. Which don’t fit. Awesome, thanks for the free pair of jeans GAP! Quit hatin’ on five foot nothings who don’t even get a natural number for a size.

But thank you, Old Navy, for the $50 free dollars of clothes. I appreciate your extra-smalls. But not your jeans either!

Anywaaay. Continue reading, it’s far more important now.

I would now like to dedicate the rest of this post to my lovely friend Nour because today is October 15th, a very special day!

I think it’s pretty amazing that God would choose one of my bffs to be someone from a different country, who now lives here in the US, but in a different state than MO! And how His plan worked out for each of us just right so that our paths would cross in Morrison Hall, 2nd floor. It was like we had been friends for years! I don’t know about you, but I think it’s pretty awesome. Thank you God for her life and for blessing me with our friendship! I do miss her now because she’s 384 miles away… but distance doesn’t stop us! (This distance thing is an unwelcome theme in my life.)

Today she is newly 19 years old!!! It’s her birthday!

I wish I was 19 and a junior in college! Lucky her! Pretty soon she’ll be calling me old and making fun of me and she’ll still be young. :)

An awesome part about this birthday of hers— I get to see her this weekend!!! Looking forward to a great weekend in Anderson seeing my bffs.

Nour, I hope your birthday is CHAZAL!

Happy Birthday To You! Happy Birthday To You! Happy Birthday Dear Nour! Happy Birthday To You! And many more…

Not Me! Monday

This blog carnival of Not Me! Monday was started by MckMama. You should join in and share your not me moments, especially this week when you could win a prize! Once you start writing, you will think of ideas– trust me! You just have to be brave enough to “confess” them.

Here’s some things I am not confessing…

To avoid getting up any earlier than I had to for an 8-9 AM mid-term meeting, I did not just throw my hair up in the tiniest ponytail ever to exist, partially hide the rest with a headband, and call it good. Not me!

Who has to do wrist stretches before painting and then afterwards feels no evidence of ever doing them? Not me!

I certainly wasn’t thisclose to changing from black pants into jeans while sitting in my car on a busy street before class. (Until I saw people too close for comfort.)

You know that Old Navy coupon I won? I didn’t enter the contest ten times, but if I did, it was allowed. :)

I did not yet again miss out on Church! It’s not becoming an attendance pattern of every other Sunday or worse because I don’t do weird things like turn off my alarm in my sleep! Somebody needs to get it together!

I did not forget that today is a holiday when I planned on sending out a very important card today so that it would arrive to its destination on time. If it gets there late, it wasn’t me!

I am not keeping Ryan in suspense about my haircut until I see him nor am I sending him pictures where my hair is disguised! I wouldn’t make him wait like that or make him wait to see what paint colors we are using in my house. Nope, not me!

I am definitely not sooo excited to see Ryan this weekend that I might do weird things this week, like be insomniac like or have a hard time concentrating in class. Who would act silly like that after not seeing their significant other for 2 months? Not me!
