On The Road Again

Last weekend, Ryan and I put my new car to the test and took it on the well-traveled path to Indiana.  I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve made that trip from here to there and back, but it was a new adventure in a Hybrid!  I was hoping to get 50 MPG +, but we got around 44.  Bummer, eh?  Only kidding; that is a good 10 more miles to the gallon than my old car!  I think you’d have to go about 60 miles-per-hour to get the maximum mileage on the highway.  We didn’t have time for that, as we already got a late start (4 pm).

The reason we were on the road again was because Ryan had to meet up with John Tibbs and band to head out to camp.  They’re finishing up a week of camp in Pennsylvania and tomorrow they’re traveling to Michigan for another week.  When they get back from Michigan, they’ll celebrate their album release with a party and then Ryan will come back to Missouri for several weeks.  I’ve definitely been missing him this week, but at the same time I am really excited for these opportunities he’s been given!

Anyway, last Saturday our plans were to get on the road after I took the C-BASE (standardized test for education majors), which was supposed to be 8 AM- 12 noon.  However… I skipped it.  I was entirely too exhausted from my week of class and figured I probably wouldn’t have done very hot on it.  As long as I don’t have too many problems passing it when I take it this fall, I’ll be okay.  Potentially, it could put be behind on graduating, but let’s hope not!

So after taking our sweet little time, we got on the road.  We made quite a few stops on the way- Panera, Starbucks (twice!), a stop for gas and air for my tires, where we found one of the caps on the tires was missing.  That led to a trip to Walmart and I think that was our last stop before reaching Todd and Carrie’s house.  By that time it was midnight (central time) and I still had to travel 45 more minutes to my friend, Nour’s house!  Needless to say, I don’t think I got there until like 3 AM eastern time and I felt pretty bad for interrupting her sleep.

The next morning we slept in a bit and then had the morning and afternoon to hang out.  It was a very quick visit, as I had to get back for another week of classes, but it was still really great to see her!  We both showed each other our new cars- she just bought her very first car, so exciting!  Nour drove me around her adorable city, we ate some fruit and dessert at a local park, stopped by an Old Navy (ooops, not in my budget!!), and I longingly looked at the awesome bike path they had around the town.  Our time together ended too quickly and I had to get back on the road to Missouri, but I was very thankful that it all worked out and I could see her for a bit!  See you again soon, friend?!?

Spring Break 2010 {5 weeks later…}

Better late than never, right??

5 weeks ago was the beginning of a week off from school, the always much needed Spring Break. (Wow, I can’t believe it has been 5 weeks already.) I spent that Monday in St. Louis with my Mom, because I had to have a follow-up ultrasound for a breast fibroadenoma. (It’s not a concern.) We also ate lunch at the usual California Pizza Kitchen and went to the mall while we were there. Surprisingly, my Mom wanted to stop by the Cancer Center where my Dad was treated. We were going to say hi to his former Oncologist, but he wasn’t there. We did see his ENT/surgeon though and he was glad we stopped by. I was afraid that stepping into that building would bring back a lot of memories and emotions, but it really didn’t. We went there so many times before that I guess it just felt “normal.”
When we got back from St. Louis that night, I had to pack for Indiana. Yep, the next day (Tuesday) I headed to Indiana to see Ryan and my friend Nour too! I was really excited and all packed up Monday night, but when I drug myself out of bed on Tuesday morning with a sore throat I was really bummed. I was catching a cold and could it have been any worse timing?! I decided to suck it up and just go anyway because I wasn’t feeling horrible yet. However, as I made the 6 hour trip I felt worse and worse as time went on. My throat hurt so bad and I didn’t drink or eat anything on the way there. I started to regret going because I just wanted to crawl back in bed and sleep. I made it though, barely, at about 8 pm and crashed into Ryan’s arms. Well, after I ate a salad for lunch/dinner since I was about to pass out from not eating.
I stayed in my friend Nour’s apartment while I was there and slept in both mornings trying to fight off my cold. Also, AU was not on break so they still had to go to classes of course. Ryan was really busy on Wednesday, so Nour and I hung out all day. I felt a tiny bit better that day–Nour cooked me a yummy lunch and then we went and relaxed in the sun in the yard of our old dorm. We used to lay out a blanket and bask in the sun on nice days during our freshman year. It was fun to reminisce in the super relaxing weather with the bright sun and wind to cool us off. We both agreed that could’ve lay there for hours. Well, we practically did.
That night when Ryan was finished with his classes and internship, we hung out again. He took me on a hott date to the campus “cafeteria” called the Marketplace. It was weird to be there again after I hadn’t in almost 2 years. It didn’t change much. That night we went shopping at Kohl’s for some jeans for him. (His birthday present.. umm 6+ months late, yes.) And that was about all I had energy for that day!
The next day, April Fool’s Day, it was already time to head home. And this time, I wasn’t alone–Ryan drove me home! His Easter break started that night and so he came back home with me for a few days. So we packed up, ate breakfast/lunch at the other place on campus, and while he went to class/got ready/finished up some work, Nour and I hung out outside again. The weather was so nice that week! We took a walk around campus while we waited on Ryan.
I talked to my Mom on the phone and she, The Queen of April Fool’s, told me a few that she had pulled some jokes that day. Well first off she tried to trick me by texting and saying she woke up with the stomach flu. I knew she was fibbing so I got her back by saying that Nour woke up with it too.
Then she told me that she had seen Ryan’s Mom, Sara, at a restaurant during lunch and told her an April Fool’s joke that could get someone beat up! She said to Sara.. “Have you heard that Mindy is trying to get pregnant?!” MOM!! WAY TO (ALMOST) GIVE SARA A HEART ATTACK! That was definitely a horrible joke to play. ;o) But I still couldn’t help but laugh.
When Ryan was finally ready to go, Nour and I played a little joke on him. She got in the car and we acted like she was going to Missouri with us. He believed us and started pulling out of the parking lot… so Nour said “Wait, I forgot my cell phone!” When he turned back around I got out of the car and gave her a hug goodbye. We got him! hehe. To read about our April Fool’s joke we played on a professor our freshman year, click here.
So anyway, Ryan and I stopped by an Old Navy for more birthday shopping before leaving Anderson. We also stopped in Indianapolis at a mall where Ryan ended up finding one shirt. Then Ryan had planned to meet up with Todd & Carrie (Todd is in the John Tibbs band too) and eat dinner. But by the time we met up, it was past 9 pm and we had to resort to eating in a Pub. It was okay though, we had a good time talking with them.
(I stole this cute picture from Carrie’s Facebook to give you a visual incase you don’t click on her blog.)
So it turned out that we didn’t leave Indy until about 11 pm and yes, we still had 5 hours ahead of us ’til home. Ryan had a few energy drinks and I tried to sleep but couldn’t get comfortable. My throat was super dry and scratchy so I couldn’t even talk to him and help him stay awake. I drove the last 40 minutes or so and we finally made it home about 4 in the morning. Probably not the brightest idea to stay awake so long when you’re trying to fight a cold, but hey I survived.
Friday and Saturday were just relaxing days, enjoying finally being able to hang out . Saturday was round 1 of Steven’s senior pictures and we also got in the hottub for a bit. Sunday was Easter and so we went to Church, went out for lunch, did round 2 of Steven’s pictures, and then Ryan’s Mom came over for dinner with my family. It was a good day and Steven even got a few cute pictures of Ryan and I. (Much appreciated!)
And as you know, Ryan had to go back to AU on Monday (he got a ride from someone else) and I headed back to classes. It was a good week together though, despite my annoying cold. It couldn’t ruin the precious time with my bffs. I also enjoyed hanging out with my Nour, who I rarely get to see. So thankful for both of them!
Ryan fell asleep like this– he was tired after waking up early to play at Church. By the way, this is the new shirt I bought him.
And now I get to see Ryan THIS WEEKEND! EEEK!

Review of my weekend

What did you do this weekend?

I’ll tell you about mine, but it probably won’t keep your attention for long. Now just imagine living it if you can’t even read it. ;-)

Usually I don’t like weekends… sounds weird, I know. But it makes sense when they are long and turn depressing because I get lonely just sitting here by myself doing nothing.

However, this weekend wasn’t too bad. I almost went crazy on Friday night until my friend Tiffany told me to come over for a bit. Thank goodness! The next morning I also went to her house to stay with her baby while she napped and they got ready for her 1st birthday party. So I went to the party that afternoon… saw a few more people from high school. I’m one of the few without a kid of my own, which is kind of weird. The rest of Saturday I just hung out at home as usual, oh and worked on a Valentine something. My Mom and I ate a late dinner at Sybil’s that night and I was tired by 10 pm.

On Sunday I once again slept in (not a good habit I have going on) and later opened my genetics book for homework that afternoon. I was extremely intimidated and would’ve had an anxiety attack if it weren’t for my bff Nour. She helped me with every problem over the phone! I can’t thank her enough. As for how I’ll do the rest of the homework during this semester, I don’t know… but genetics has officially scared me. I had hope that I could buy the student solutions manual… but it’s under the password-protected instructor’s website. Oh, what a convenient place for the student solution manual. Sigh. I also watched The Pregnancy Pact on Lifetime. Did anyone else watch it? It was good, but wow, those girls had the wrong idea.

I also missed my boyfriend even more than usual because he was in Pennsylvania playing drums so we didn’t get to talk as much.

Could January please hurry up? I’m ready for February, because it’s closer to March and spring!

This week holds classes, babysitting, more genetics homework, a therapy appt… oh and cold weather. :(

A detailed account of my lovely weekend

The weekend goodness was unfortunately not captured in pictures (dare I fight Ryan for a smile? no!), but the proof of my visit is in my brighter smile and love filled heart.

I left Missouri at 9:30 on Friday morning with a little anxiety that quickly diminished. Can I just say I am very excited that this weekend was not anxiety plagued like the last weekend in Anderson?! What a relief. More on that in another post because my therapy appointment was all about anxiety today.

In order to make it into Ryan’s arms ASAP, I only stopped two times to pee and ate a small lunch in my car that I packed. I don’t even have to stop for gas if I fill it up before I leave. 13 gallons in my Eclipse is just enough to make it to Anderson, Indiana. The anticipation to see Ryan was building throughout the 380 miles… and finally… at 5 pm eastern time, I arrived! There’s nothing like a long overdue hug (this time it had been 4 weeks) from your boyfriend. The rest of that night involved lots of cuddles, hugs, kisses… oh wait, that was the whole weekend! I’ll spare you the mushy details, but after we decided that cuddling only fed our hearts and not our stomachs, we ordered a pizza from Papa John’s for dinner. Ryan also made me some raspberry BourgeaTEA (Ryan is a part of this business) and then we watched the movie “Up.” Then I was super tired so we fell asleep and I woke back up at 3 am to a text from my friend, “Are you really going by central time?” She meant that open house hours ended at 2 am. Ooops. So I walked down two floors with two blankets, a body pillow, and a regular pillow to her apartment, where she ever so graciously let me sleep on her bed. She’s such a kind friend!

The next morning I may or may not have set my alarm for 10 am so I could go back up to Ryan’s apartment at the start of open house hours and finish sleeping. I finally ate breakfast at 1:30 pm and then hurriedly took a shower and got ready for a date at 3 pm. Good thing Ryan said “It’s 2:14 pm” because I was looking at central time on my computer and would’ve had to go on a date in my pajamas. (I had almost forgot was a date was like!!!)

We met up another couple and rode along with them to Indy (Indianapolis). They had to do a little shopping and then we went to a Church service where another guy from the John Tibbs band was playing. Afterwards, we went out to eat at a yummy pizza place (yep, pizza again) with four other couples. We got back to Anderson around 10 pm and just hung out and you know, cuddled.

I went to bed at 2:30 am and turned off my alarm when it went off at 9:30 for church the next morning. However, I magically awoke at 9:50 and quickly got ready (kind of) and made it in time (kind of). Ryan plays drums there every Sunday morning with John Tibbs. I learned at Church that Ryan is in the “Twitter elite” in Anderson, Indiana. (@ryanr14) I already knew he was a nerd though. :) A cute one, of course. Yes, they were talking about Twitter at Church.

Then we went back to campus and ended up eating more pizza (leftovers). I saw my friend Nour a little bit in between there. Next up was an amazing two-hour nap (of course Ryan fell asleep in .2 seconds) and then I went and hung out with Nour for an hour. If you haven’t noticed, I was traveling between the two floors of their apartments often. Another friend I had up at school, Joanna, happened to stop by, which was nice since we hadn’t seen each other in a year. Back to Ryan’s I went for more hanging out and then a late, but yummy dinner/breakfast at IHOP and a quick trip to Wal-Mart. The rest of the night I hung out with Nour and talked about such things like… Ryan’s facial hair, conceiving triplets, my upcoming decision for the next semester, and by the end of the night, I was exhausted. It’s really hard to balance boyfriend/bff time on a short time frame, but I’m glad Nour is understanding.

The next morning I got up at 9:30, showered, packed up, and said my goodbyes. The goodbye to Ryan wasn’t too bad this time since I will see him in a week (YAY!!!). But anytime I have to say goodbye to him, my heart is always a little (or a lot) heavy the rest of the day. I miss him the second I have to leave him.

On the way home, I only stopped twice again and with a little speeding, I made it home in exactly 6 hours. I determined it is impossible to make the trip in 6 hours unless you speed and hardly make a stop. Oh and also, I listened to Christmas music on the way back which got me even more excited for the Holidays. I had a few hours until my class that night and after my class, I couldn’t move from exhaustion!

Overall, it was a great weekend leaving me feeling good!!! Although, it made me sad to think that Ryan and I miss out on time together all the other weekends. Something like that weekend should be the norm, not a rarity. Sigh.

I’m looking forward to seeing him again next week for Thanksgiving!!! I can’t believe we only have to wait a week to see each other again. Maybe we should work on making that even less. (we = me)

Not Me! Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday, a blog carnival started by MckMama.

First off, I must tell you, my main motivation of writing this post is not because I have a chance to win a prize. Nope, it is just because I want to share from the bottom of my heart my not me! moments. Here it goes…

I did not forget to compensate for my new short hair and burn my finger on my hot Chi straightener. I bet that would hurt and leave a nice mark!!

I am not so directionally challenged that it took me a few days to figure out my way around the apartment complex in which Ryan and Nour reside. Nope, not me!

I did not for a teeny tiny second pretend that I lived in Nour’s apartment and thus lived just a few floors away from Ryan. Ahhh… a few floors versus a few states.

That isn’t me who, despite wearing three scarves, two pairs of gloves, a hat that covered my ears, two long sleeve shirts (one being a turtleneck), a coat, jeans, boots, long socks, with two blankets on top… (at Ryan’s ultimate tournament) still felt like an ice cube!

And it does not make me want to beg Ryan to pleaaaase move to Florida with me. Or (not desperate enough to say) just anywhere warm!

I’m a good girlfriend, and thus it’s not me who still hasn’t bought Ryan his September 14th birthday presents! It’s October 19th today, FYI procrasinator-for-a-girlfriend.

It wasn’t me who got sooo excited/anxious/nervous/happy about seeing Ryan that it messed with my digestive system all weekend long! Nope, not me.

Ryan is not a brat who won’t cooperate and smile at the right time so we can get a good picture.

I do still love him dearly though.
